Medical Plans

Choosing the right plan starts with understanding your total cost of care and how the plans compare. Review your medical plan options from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX).
About the Plans
All BCBSTX plans use the same provider network, cover the same medical and prescription services, and offers free preventive care. What varies is your paycheck cost, what you pay when you get care, and whether the Company contributes money to help with your expenses.
There are two types of plans offered:
- Health Savings Account (HSA) Eligible Plans — Generally provides a lower cost out of your paycheck to help you save money to use when you need care and gives you access to a unique tax-advantaged savings account called an HSA. You can contribute pre-tax dollars, Office Depot adds a contribution, and you can use the combined funds for eligible medical, dental, and vision expenses — the money is yours to keep, year after year.
- Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) — Offers set copays for services.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) administers three medical plan options — HSA Basic, HSA Plus, and PPO.
What's the Same
All three plans use the BCBSTX network to find trusted providers near you, and offer:
- Free, in-network preventive care, including annual physicals, wellness exams, and immunizations
- Low-cost virtual visits with a doctor
- Prescription drug coverage through Optum Rx
- You’ll work with BCBSTX Benefits Value Advisors for support
- Protection for your wallet with an annual OOP
What's Different
The plans differ in how you pay when you receive care and what you pay in premiums each pay period. Your paycheck contribution is a key part of your total health care spend, so weigh it alongside deductibles, coinsurance, and copays when choosing a plan.
HSA Basic & HSA Plus
- After you receive care, you will pay the deductible or coinsurance
- Gives you access to an HSA to contribute pre-tax dollars for eligible medical expenses
- Receives a company contribution to the HSA
PPO
- Shows your total cost (copay) upfront, before you seek care
