At a Glance

Adding a new baby to the family can impact a number of your benefits: your medical plan, mental-health support through the EAP, tax-advantaged savings accounts, paid leave, and support once you're back at work. The steps below map those benefits to where you are in the journey.

Planning

Before you're expecting, a few benefits can make the road ahead smoother, from saving money tax-free to getting familar with the support you already have.

  • Explore fertility support. Available to all United States Coworkers. If you need help conceiving, WINFertility connects you with a nationwide network of fertility specialists — no clinical or age requirements. It also guides you through treatment options, costs, and next steps so you can move forward with confidence.

  • Set money aside. Plan your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA) contribution by estimating your expected health care costs. If you enroll in the HSA Basic or HSA Plus medical plan, Office Depot also contributes to your HSA quarterly. If you don't have an HSA medical plan, you can contribute to a Health Care FSA, but you can only make adjustments during Annual Enrollment or after a qualifying life event.

  • Lean on the EAP. The Employee Assistance Program, administered by Magellan Healthcare, is free and available 24/7 to you and everyone in your household. It offers work and life referral services for growing families, plus up to five free counseling sessions per person per issue per year for stress, anxiety, or anything else on your mind.

Prenatal Care

Now is the time to connect with your care team and use the support built into your Office Depot medical plan.

  • Get help navigating care. BCBSTX medical plan participants can access a Benefits Value Advisor, a personal health care concierge who can help you understand your benefits, find in-network providers, schedule appointments, estimate service costs, and help you understand any bills.

  • Add Maven to your care team. Maven Maternity and Postpartum offers a free 21-month program that gives you 24/7 virtual access to a full care team — OB-GYNs, doulas, lactation consultants, sleep coaches, and mental health providers — from the moment you learn you're expecting through 12 months after delivery. Available to BCBSTX medical plan participants, you’ll get a personalized care plan, educational resources, and live classes, plus dedicated support if you're a partner, a surrogate, or navigating pregnancy loss.

  • Use virtual visits. When you don't feel well enough to see a doctor, you can see a provider by phone or video through Virtual Care at Teladoc Health, for just $10 per visit across all BCBSTX medical plans — no waiting room required.

  • Care for your mind. If you've used all your free visits from the EAP, Teladoc Health's Behavioral Health Specialists are available 24/7 for counseling on anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, and more as you prepare for your baby.

  • Get familiar with your medical plan. All three Office Depot medical plans use the BCBSTX network and include free in-network preventive care and prescription drug coverage through Optum Rx.

  • Apply for Leave of Absence and Short-Term Disability (STD). Applying for Paid Parental Bonding Leave (PPBL), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and STD before your baby arrives helps you get everything in place before you head to the delivery room. Submit your leave request to Voya and complete the required steps. The process is simple: you apply for PPBL, FMLA, and STD, your eligibility is assessed, and you’re notified once a decision is made. Don't forget to inform your manager and Human Resources of your upcoming leave.

Birth & Hospital

Your Office Depot medical plan covers your hospital stay, and a supplemental benefit can help with extra costs.

  • Know your hospital coverage. Review how your BCBSTX medical plan (HSA Basic, HSA Plus, or PPO) pays toward labor, delivery, and your stay.

  • Use Hospital Indemnity if enrolled. Voya's Hospital Indemnity insurance pays you a cash benefit directly — $1,000 for a hospital admission, plus $200 per day for up to 30 days of a covered stay — to use however you need.

  • Collect your newborn's Hospital Indemnity benefit. If you are enrolled in Hospital Indemnity and if child coverage is effective before birth or elected within 60 days after birth, your newborn will receive the same cash benefits as you. If you don’t enroll in child coverage within that timeframe, you’ll receive a one‑time $300 newborn benefit at birth — in addition to your cash benefit amount.

  • Add your baby within 31 days. Report the birth or adoption on the Office Depot Benefits Hub to add your newborn to your coverage within 31 days, or they will not have any benefits coverage.

  • Submit dependent verification documentation. All eligible dependents enrolled in Office Depot benefit plans must go through a dependent eligibility verification audit to confirm their eligibility. You’ll receive instructions and a list of required documents by email or U.S. mail, based on your communication preferences. If documentation isn’t received on time, your dependent will not be added to your coverage.

Home with Baby

The first weeks can feel overwhelming. Paid leave, income protection, and the EAP help you keep your attention where it matters — on your baby.

  • Take Paid Parental Bonding Leave (PPBL). If you've been with Office Depot at least one year and are classified as full-time, you can take up to six weeks of PPBL, administered through Voya, to bond with your new child.

  • Need additional time? Take Family and Medical Leave. Under FMLA (or applicable state/local law), you can take up to 12 weeks of leave to bond with your newborn — this runs concurrently with PPBL. See the Time Away from Work page for how to pay for benefits via direct billing while you’re out.

  • Replace your income while you are disabled. If you're out of work due to pregnancy, STD through Voya pays 100% of your weekly earnings for birth-related events for up to 26 weeks after a seven-day waiting period.

  • Ease postpartum aches with Hinge Health. BCBSTX medical plan participants can get free, at-home Virtual Physical Therapy tools — guided exercises, sensors, and 1-on-1 coaching — to help with back, muscle, or joint pain after delivery. Hinge Health's personalized Women’s Pelvic Health Program offers targeted exercises, including pelvic floor strengthening, to support recovery, reduce pain, and improve overall core stability.

  • Get support when you need it. You don't have to do this alone. The EAP can help with postpartum emotions, stress, and the transition home, with five free counseling sessions per issue per year. They can also connect you to a Parenting Specialist who can help you with finding child care, special needs resources, and other services.

Back to Work

A few benefits that can help you prepare for coming back to work.

  • Keep support close. Balancing new parenthood and work isn't easy — the EAP offers 24/7 help free of charge and work-life referral services for growing families, including child care referrals.

  • Count on LegalEASE Caregiver Services. Access a nationwide network of vetted caregivers to help you plan for child care, backup care, and household support. This is especially helpful when preparing for infant care, arranging temporary help after birth, or managing changing family needs.

  • Tap into Maven Parenting and Pediatrics. As your family settles in, Maven connects you to on-demand pediatric care, parenting experts, developmental specialists, and behavioral health support — covering everything from sleep and developmental milestones to nutrition and special education, from early childhood through adolescence. All BCBSTX participants and their household members can access it for free whenever a question or concern comes up.

  • Stock up in style. Life gets busy, but Coworker Partner Discounts give you easy access to discounts on diapers, clothes, gear, and everyday essentials, so you can refresh what your family needs in advance and without overspending.
