At a Glance

A serious diagnosis affects more than your health — it can affect your finances, your time at work, and your family. These benefits are built to help with all three.

Right After Diagnosis

‍

  • Get help understanding your options. Your Benefits Value Advisor, through BCBSTX, can help you find in-network specialists, understand your diagnosis and coverage, and get cost estimates for treatment.

  • Manage a chronic condition. If your diagnosis involves diabetes, Teladoc provides a free glucose meter, unlimited strips, and on-demand coaching — completely free when you're enrolled in a BCBSTX medical plan.

  • Talk to someone. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Magellan Healthcare is free, confidential, and available 24/7 for you and your household — you don’t need to be enrolled in anything else to use it, and you can book up to five free counseling sessions per issue, per year.

Easing the Financial Impact

  • Review your HSA or FSA balance to help cover treatment costs tax-free.

  • File a Critical Illness claim, if enrolled. Voya's Critical Illness insurance pays a lump-sum benefit of $15,000 or $30,000 for a covered diagnosis, including cancer, a heart attack, a stroke, and others, paid directly to you.

  • File a Hospital Indemnity claim, if enrolled, for any related hospital stays.

Taking Time Away from Work

  • Apply for disability benefits. Short-Term Disability replaces 50% of your weekly earnings for up to 26 weeks; Long-Term Disability can extend that protection to 60% of monthly earnings starting on Day 181.

  • Talk to HR about a Leave of Absence for extended treatment or recovery.

Support for You & Your Family

  • Use the EAP. Five free counseling sessions per issue per year are available to you and everyone in your household for the emotional weight of a serious diagnosis.

  • Talk to a Behavioral Health Specialist. Need continuous care — Teladoc Health's licensed specialists are available 24/7 for $10 per visit.

  • Review your life insurance. If your diagnosis prompts you to reconsider your coverage, log in to the Office Depot Benefits Hub to review your Basic and Supplemental Life elections and beneficiaries.
